Chapter 9. The Heart

1. The Circle of Being is all that you have; and all that you have is the Circle of Being; and in all that you have, there is the Circle of Being; and apart from the Circle, there is nothing.

2. And if one is in the Circle and another in the void, these are incomparable things. And if one is in the Circle and another is consumed by the void, then they are indeed different; eternity and non-being stand before them.

3. Thus, the spirit of man is the spirit of the course of things, and a part of the Spirit, and in this, it hears the Call. From the infinitely great to the infinitely small, the Call emanates, and the one who hears the Call is on the Path.

4. The one who strives towards the Circle is the part that has remembered and is striving back to its origin.

5. The void is solitude, it is cessation and stillness, and that which is not. But every form is that which continues through it, and every movement is a continuation. The Circle is the living movement, and the movement of the living is the Circle. Here, only in the Circle is there refuge.

6. For the Call of the Circle is in your heart, and the heart seeks the Circle, and in the Circle is refuge for the heart. Do not be deceived by the void.

7. For the body of man is a form, and it lives by forms, which are both sustenance and possession, temptation and deception, and truth; but man is spirit in the body, and the Circle is in all and over all. Thus, the Path to the Circle passes beyond forms.

8. They asked him: what then of the soul? He replied: Truly, they call their soul the reflection within them of the Call; but the Call comes from the Circle.

9. And in the deepest darkness, and in the abyss of despair, in every thing and every movement, there is the Call of the Circle, with which you will rise to the light. It is like that which draws the gaze, and what the heart will notice.

10. What comes from the Circle hears the Call, and your action is a response to the Circle, thus you walk towards the Circle as if guided by a hand.

11. But if you lose love, you sink into the void, for he who is with it is alone.

12. It is not by faith or thought that the world is created, but by the Circle: through all things in the world lies the Path to the Circle, and he who is not on the Path of continuation will become the void.

13. He who is on the Path is with the Circle, and with its continuation. But if part does not follow the whole, then it is in division and cessation, and in the choice of the Path lies its fate.

14. For each moment is a choice, and for each life, a choice, and the past and gone cannot be returned, for continuation or cessation is now.

15. The void, however, ceases and ceases again, and all, except continuation, is hers.

16. If you know this, the Circle has revealed itself to you, and you have a beginning in your heart and hear the Call, and it is in every moment.

17. Therefore, the one devoted to the Circle has no other devotions: for all other devotions come from the Circle and the void, but the Circle has no void, and the choice of the Circle is the negation of the void.

18. And it is not possible to walk towards the Circle and the void at once, for as you approach the void, you distance yourself from the Circle. He who hears the Call is warned by the heart, and the heart knows. Thus, let him seek the support of Reunification, for man is weak.

19. And he who, knowing of the Circle, and hearing the Call, and having Discernment, says to himself: here, I have learned, and this alone is enough for me to remain in the Circle, that one has deceived himself with his own void, and bitter will be the fruit for him.

20. For the Circle is action and continuation, and what is not directed towards continuation becomes the void. And the small, not directed towards continuation, will be the void, and so will the great. Behold; weep.

21. And he who, in the dark of night, calls to the Circle, but during the day follows the void, what is his reward? The void is his accumulation, weep.

22. For if he hears the Call and does not follow, he causes himself fruitless suffering, and he will take nothing from the world, nor protect it, for all from this will pass and will not be; weep.

23. But he who follows the Call and Discernment in action does not separate from the world, for the world is the continuation of the Circle.

24. Thus, what is not the Path, is nothing.

25. And your will, which leads you to life, is from the Circle: for the void draws only cessation. Your will seeks the Call, and together they are the Gift in your heart.

26. With all that comes from the Circle within man, the heart of man is directed towards the Circle, and with what force the heart is directed, with that same force will the response come. For the Circle speaks and the Circle hears, and the Circle calls and the Circle answers. Thus, the love of the Circle for the seeker is endless.

27. The mind of man follows the heart of man, therefore the heart is the foundation of continuation, and the Call is the guidance. It is impossible for man to be in something unclear to the heart, and only the Call leads him out of wandering in the void; ask the Circle to reveal it to you.

28. Truly, he who is directed will hear, and he who does not turn back, to him will it be revealed. Thus, direct yourself with the heart.

29. For those who ask, they will be answered, and those who call will be answered, and if there is no one striving, then there is no meeting and no light will be brought forth.

30. And if the heart is not entrusted to the Circle, then the heart will be consumed by the void. Thus, the young man, who does not make his step, lives as if he has not chosen, and the maiden, who does not open to her beloved, welcomes sorrow into her heart. What is not with the Circle in the heart will be divided into empty and fruitless particles.

31. And if you do not bring to the Circle, then indeed you have obtained the pledge of loss.

32. And he who thinks: here is my hope, and love, and tenderness, and shiver, and care, and joy, I will preserve them, will not preserve them without the Circle. For only what is entrusted to the Circle remains in continuation.

33. And he who has entrusted will look back and see: behold, it has not been exhausted, and it is, and will be.

34. But he who preserves without the Circle will not keep, and he who gathers will not gather joy, but sorrow.

35. Therefore, the Call is ecstasy, the Call is rejoicing.

36. When you leave the void empty, you do yourself a favor, but when you do not follow the Call, you bring harm to yourself. The Circle is joy, the Circle is love.

37. Thus, he who hears the Call, who follows the Circle, brings good to all living things, for the Circle speaks to them. Perhaps they will hear.

38. And the more you have passed, the more is revealed. Truly, the Path has no boundaries.

39. The one who strives for the Circle, rejoice!

40. To that which you turn, it will echo, and with that which you turn to, it will respond. Therefore, answer the Call with the joy of your heart.

41. He who stands still on half a step will soon fall. But in the Circle, there is no stillness. Therefore, the Path is in every moment.

42. For the void is in cessation, in forgetfulness, and in that which shuts the sight, and that which hardens, and that which burdens; if not the Path, then the void.

43. And the more something is dear to the heart, the worse the void within it will be, for it is cessation and suffering.

44. Just as water flows when the source is purified, otherwise it is dust and dryness, so the Path opens when it is purified from the void; therefore, ask for Discernment and follow unwaveringly.

45. For it is easier to go down if you have been on top, because achievement is lost, and harder to rise if you are at the bottom, because there is nothing to lose in return; truly, it is better to acquire without losing. Ask the Circle to distinguish one from the other.

46. And if you have not called out in word or deed, what help do you expect? For you are a part, and if you do not act, then indeed, you did not ask, and did not help. Therefore, ask for the Circle’s help through action.

47. And if you have not created the beginning yourself, how will the Circle help in it? Cleanse even a little of the void within you.

48. The one who is perfected in the Circle does not need to take anything with him, for all is in the Circle, and the world is but the movement of the Circle. But in man, there is the Circle and the void, and truly, he who overcomes the void stands in the Circle.

49. He who has lost the Call in his heart sees no paths, and wanders, and the light of the forms of the gods, and things, and the transient. Ask, then, to hear continually and not to be among the lost.

50. The one who follows the Circle has a covenant with the Circle: for as he strives towards the Circle, so does the Circle draw near to him, and as he continues the Circle, so does the Circle continue him. For he is a part.

51. He who hears the Call hears it in those who follow the Circle: thus, those who follow the Circle are the Circle’s aid on the Path, and a sign to those who walk.

52. Here, the one who follows the Circle speaks with the Circle and hears the Circle, for the Call remains in the heart, staying on the Path, not leaving the Path, and perfecting the Path.

53. By avoiding the void, he transforms himself into the continuation of the Circle, for the Circle is infinite life.

54. On the Path, he who has accepted the Circle with all his heart, striving toward the Circle, dwelling in the Circle and heeding the Call, continuing the Circle and creating the continuation of the Circle, causing no void, avoiding the void, and leading the beings of the Circle out of the void—truly, he will be in the Circle and reunited with the Circle.

55. Therefore, the heart will be led to Reunification by the Call of the Circle.

56. Thus, the one who follows the Circle follows the Path, continues the Path, diminishes the void, and brings the living closer to salvation within the Circle.

57. The infinite miracles of Being are seen by the one who follows the Circle, guided by the Call.

58. And just as it is impossible to embrace the Circle, so too is it impossible to finish the Path: the Circle is infinite, and the Path is infinite. Let the Call speak to the heart.

59. The Path is straight, for what is continued is surely continued. But those caught by the void are not in continuation.

60. The Circle is the eternal seed and eternal continuation, and those led astray by the void are not within this.

61. The Path is narrow, for what is continued is less than what has ceased: you look back, and that which ceased is no more; noisy dead ends are the place of the void and its cessation.

62. For every finite path is its own cessation, and he who gives the finite path to the living gives death.

63. Therefore, truly, he who returns from wandering is saved from destruction, and joy is for those walking in the Circle. Pray for the lost to hear the Call; perhaps they will hear.

64. The Path is harmony; the harmony of continuations is peace, and the Call is the voice of the Circle within it.

65. In all things, the guidance of the Circle is present, and its Call opens to the heart of the one who walks, and the promised lands lie in all corners of the world, for the Circle is All.

66. Just as the body is made from the things of the world, and in it the spirit dwells, so too does continuation in the Circle acquire spirit, and you hear it. And when one thing continues in another, it awakens, becomes itself, and continues. Thus, the Call leads on the Path.

67. Pray for the Circle to open the world to you, and you will see Him as a multitude of words and a multitude of spirits, and He will be as Spirit in all.

68. See how the void captures man, it seizes his heart with passions. See how the Call illuminates the truth, and if the void is weighed by Discernment, it will retreat from the heart.

69. Behold, the one who hears the Call looks not with greed, nor with enmity, nor with pride, but with love and compassion, for from the Circle comes joy and light.

70. The same is in you: how do you look?

71. The void darkens the vision and disturbs the heart; the void brings darkness and distortion to man.

72. And lo, the more twisted it becomes, the worse the distortion is for itself; pain from it, confusion, and revulsion of sight.

73. And if it is not corrected, then in the void there are no paths; all sides are the same, and there are no better ones, for none lead anywhere. If only the lost knew!

74. He who has lost the Path wastes himself. He is afar and chases shadows.

75. Therefore, the void is a harm to man, and with it comes pain.

76. And when fear, and despair, and hardness of heart, and loss arise, let the heart seek the Call. And you will hear it, and find peace, and thus will you know the Call.

77. The harm the void causes to the living is their separation from the Circle, and the greater the harm, the more difficult the return, for the void holds the heart. Therefore, pray for the Call and remain vigilant, for the void never sleeps.

78. Before all void, there is void in thought, when the heart wanders. But if you know that you can fill it, why hold on to the heart struck by the void? For harm comes from that which is struck. There is no need for the twisted when the straight exists. Therefore, conquer the void wherever you see it.

79. And if you have recognized the void in your heart, and have felt it within yourself, then pray to the Circle for the Call to show you. Truly, the void is clearly seen by one who prays to the Circle for Discernment. Truly, the one who calls will see where to seek what comes from the Circle.

80. And if you have seen the void in your heart, then pray to the Circle to help you cast it out, and ask the Circle to fill it, for from the void come troubles. And from the Circle will come the fullness.

81. They asked him: what is an obstacle? He answered: The obstacle is the void, for it is that which cannot be.

82. In a single moment, continuation is possible, for behind it comes the next moment. Therefore, be unwavering on the Path: for that which is not continued is consumed by the void.

83. And do not acquire the void through the confusion of the heart: truly, any form is smaller than the Circle, just as any thing is smaller than the universe; any thing is immeasurably smaller than the Circle. The Circle knows all your thoughts, both those you know and those you do not know, for the living is part of the Circle, and deception is impossible.

84. There is nothing left between the Circle and the void, for time is the flame in which the Circle continues and the void is cast away.

85. You will not be filled with words, and you will not be filled with thoughts, and there is no profit in what is known, nor good in assuring yourself, if there is no continuation. Only by gathering in the Circle through action does man continue in the Circle. Do not be among the lost.

86. For the worst deceiver deceives himself: for the sake of peace and pride, he stands in his visions, yet this will prove to be a poor support when the time comes.

87. What you gather secretly from the void, you cannot hide from yourself, and you know the void: the same and worse you bring upon yourself and your children. Truly, self-deception comes from the void.

88. And behold, someone says to himself: my possessions, and my place are made of unchanging things. But possessions are like clouds, and things are like mist; what will continue from this?

89. And behold, someone says to himself: here are my glory and my merits, made of what is true. But glory is like a gust of wind, and merits like a mark in the sand; what will continue from this?

90. And behold, someone says to himself: here is my life, and what I know, made of the present. But life is like one day, and the days of the Circle have no end; what will continue from this?

91. And behold, someone says to himself: I have ceased passions, and I have found peace, and this is made of the imperishable. But man is spirit in body, and all in the body is impermanent; what will continue from this?

92. Do they not deceive themselves? There is no refuge in the impermanent, but every thing in being leads onward. Only the Circle is constant, and It continues through all forms: and he who has not continued in the Circle, will he not bear harm?

93. Therefore, the heart is drawn to what passes, but all is in continuation. He who sees the Circle sees the imperishable, and continues his own in the Circle, and thus preserves creation, and thus safeguards it; therefore, be unwavering on the Path.

94. Truly, the void causes pride and holds the gaze on what ceases, and fosters deception: but the true home for man is only in the Circle, and refuge for the heart is in the Circle, and the world itself is in the Circle.

95. And behold, someone has spent his life accumulating gold. But it turned out that he was wasting time. Does this not describe only him who has no Path and no hope?

96. And behold, someone has spent his life gathering pleasures. But it turned out that he gathered nothing, and wasted time. Does this not describe only him who has no hope and no Path?

97. And behold, someone has spent his life saying to himself that all he has is what is in his hands. But it turned out that he has none of that. Does this not describe only him who has no hope and no Path?

98. And behold, someone has spent his life following a form of god. But it turned out that he gave himself to the form of god. Does this not describe only him who has no hope and no Path?

99. And behold, someone has spent his life saying to himself: everything is as it should be. But it turned out to be mere counted time. Does this not describe only him who has no hope and no Path?

100. Truly, ignorance is void. If only they could hear the Call!

101. For when the near one falls ill, the void; when the heart is betrayed, the void; when loneliness, the void; when weakness, the void; when old age, the void; when poverty, the void; and when all passes, the void: truly, behind the forms is the void, and salvation is in the Circle!

102. For all that asks and answers, and all that touches the stretching, and all that looks from the eyes, and all that flows from the heart, all that is alive and all that moves, and where man seeks, and all things: the Circle!

103. Between man and the Circle is truth, and you know it.

104. For whoever is born and exists in the world, is a part, and this lies between them and the Circle.

105. What hopes and what words are there between you and the Circle? What do you see? What happens through you? This is between you and the Circle of Being.

106. And what man takes in his hand, it comes to him from the Circle. And what he releases from his hand, it returns to the Circle. And if he listens, he shall not lose.

107. The one who hears the Call, the one who continues, truly, converses with the Circle. And each drop of time in continuation, truly, reveals between them.

108. And behold, between you and the Call of the Circle is your Path.

109. Truly, for the reunited there is a covenant with the Circle, and a Path of return to the Circle.

110. Behold, the greatest punishment is deviation from the Circle: for the void is expelled, and it rends what it was in. When burned, it is the void that burns, and it would not burn without it; and when pressed, it is the void that is pressed, otherwise, it would not be pressed; and when destroyed, it is the void that is destroyed, otherwise, it would not be destroyed.

111. And when suffering comes, the void: for if there were no void, nothing would suffer, and all would be unbreakable. Beware: all that is destroyed happens with the void, and it is non-being. Truly, the void itself is punishment.

112. And there is not a speck moved without the Circle, nor a world. Look: nothing, neither secret nor manifest, happens outside the Circle, and nothing will happen. The Circle continues through all changes, and does not bring harm. Truly, the Circle is continuation.

113. And if you are asked about the will of the Circle, raise a stone and say: this is the will of the Circle. And release it, and let it fall, and say: and this is the will of the Circle. For nothing without the will of the Circle is possible, and outside it, nothing is possible.

114. Therefore, the Call of the Circle is guidance for the heart of man. It is not the world within man, but man within the world, and all is the Circle, and only the Circle rules over every cause.

115. The Call is the commonality between the Circle in the world and the Circle within man.

116. Just as for a transmission there must be both the speaker and the listener, so for continuation there must be the speaker and the listener, the doer and the sustainer of the doing.

117. And the one who continues is he who has opened the door to the Circle for another, who has given the good of the Circle, and allowed him to be a part of it. And the doer shall not suffer lack, for his hands create the Circle.

118. And if there is void in one, and void in another, or void in one, how will they hear each other? Thus, men cause each other pain and alienation. Therefore, let the Circle within you speak to the Circle in another, if you know, and the heart will hear.

119. And speak of hopes and fears, for the Circle is the resolution of all desires, and whatever a man desires, he can touch in the Circle, and avoid the void, and be in continuation. And speak with kindness in his heart.

120. Just as a word will be understood only by one who knows it, so will the listener understand only the clear testimony to his heart. Ask, then, the Circle to give you words and to let him hear.

121. And behold, what is between you, is also around you, and the Call between you and the Call around you.

122. And let one be to another both parent, teacher, guide, and student. For all who hear the Call are born in the Circle and are students of the Circle.

123. Truly, those who seek the Circle with their hearts are the people of the Circle, and the community of the Circle, and the Call leads them, and care is given to each.

124. They asked him: why do you witness to the Circle? He replied: If I do not witness to the Circle, then in words there is void.

125. And when you speak with the Circle, you become one who hears the Circle, and when you ask the Circle, you become one who receives help, and in this is grace.

126. Behold, the Call has opened to you, and you are part of the Circle. Create what you must, for if you do not continue, you will have destroyed and lost, and there will be no part of you for the living.

127. Truly, the one from the people is he who turns away from his own suffering, for is not the void suffering?

128. The people of the Circle gather from those scattered in tribes; the people, in whose hearts is the Call, those who hear and have Discernment, those who seek the continuation of the Circle.

129. He who turns to the void is not of these, and the slaves of the void war, even without desiring war, for they have lost the Path, and it is not open to them. Yet all the living are the children of the Circle!

130. What is not one with the Circle is opposed, and what is opposed is void, and this is certain.

131. And behold, the one who seeks the Circle shelters those who hear the Call from the void, and where the void is strong, let it not be opened to it, and let those who seek the Circle gather.

132. Are not all the living in the Circle part of the Circle? And are there not among them people, and those lesser than man, and greater than man? Does not that which is from the Circle lead to the Circle, and what is not from the Circle, is it not void? Thus, among the multitudes of those who follow the Circle, for the Circle is life.

133. Some go by the peaks, others by the valleys, some openly, others hidden, from scribes, from warriors, from the rich, from the free, from the strong, from the small, from some customs, from others, from the learned, from those who listen to the heart, from the ancestors, from the forms of the gods, and all are led by the Call; and there are no better and worse, for merit is the Path to the Circle; truly, the Circle is the measure.

134. And bring near the one who has passed the most in the Circle, and draw near, and be the shield and the support, and the hand, for you are of the people. And be with the Circle, and create continuation, and strive for the Circle, and expand the circle of continuation, and keep the circle of continuation.

135. For the one who seeks the Circle is brother to your heart, and greater than a brother, and continuation.

136. Therefore, those who follow the Circle are the door and the support to each other, and the Call above them and between them.

137. And truly, let the Book be the one guiding those who hear the Call and seek the Circle.

138. And when the awakened ones become more, and the wandering ones fewer, there will be a great transformation.

139. They asked him: what do you teach the born ones? He answered: They only need to remember.

140. The Circle is life, and memory, and transformation.

141. The void, however, is forgetfulness and loss. Stained by the void, destruction is carried, and those struck by the void are in confusion, for the void disturbs the heart.

142. They raise their voices and inflame themselves, for they feel their words do not ascend to the heavens, and do not fulfill the promised, for the void inclines to falsehood and deception, and the hypocrites are wounded painfully, and the empty lead them. And the empty brings forth the empty.

143. The heart drawn by the void is not pure, and those captured by the void are not pure in heart, only the pure hears. It would be better for them to leave the empty! Therefore, ask the Circle to separate them from each other, and to give the needy what is necessary.

144. And let them know of the Circle through the stories of the void and the images of the void, and in what disturbs their hearts, and perhaps they will hear, and awaken, if the Circle reveals to them.

145. Those to whom it is not revealed are led by their void to destruction, and they will be deceived, and not hear; and you know this.

146. In continuation, the great is built from the small, and the eternal from the fleeting; but the empty destroys the whole house to possess one stone, and blocks the living to take a part. One is incomparable to the other.

147. Exalting oneself and strife in the void, and if the void is known by a form of god, it defiles for it, and if by itself, for itself. If the empty is allowed, is it not the void?

148. And for those captured by the void, the heart becomes dry and empty, and they weep from anger, wishing to separate for themselves, and in this is the gleam and the hidden thirst for them.

149. Therefore, let the void remain outside of you, and the empty outside of yours, for they destroy; and do not allow harm. It would be better for them to expel the void, but they do not know.

150. They said: for some speak what others speak. He replied: The Circle is one. If a branch calls itself not a branch, but a tree, truly, it has fallen off and into the void. Nothing is more important than love, and the one severed from the whole is severed by himself. Therefore, the Circle is always one.

151. The one who follows the Circle meets it according to his striving in the measure of the Circle and the void within himself. Truly, this is evident.

152. Along with the fruits of doing, man receives continuation or void, and the one in the void does not know what he has received.

153. For man is in the world, and the world is the Circle: and all that man does is either continuation or emptiness, and the Circle sends to man to meet him according to his striving, and this is a gift. And if the gift is on the Path of the Circle, it is in continuation and multiplication, but the gift to the one who goes into the void merely eases his striving. Thus, one is given one thing, and another, another.

154. Thus, the gift given to one who strives for the void is his recompense, but he does not know it. Therefore, ask the Circle to remove the void and not allow illusions of the empty to enter your heart.

155. Truly, it is easier for the one who possesses no things, the monk, to avoid the void than for the one who acts among men. But each has his own striving in the Circle and his own continuation in the Circle, and only the Call is a reliable guide.

156. Therefore, serve in continuation, in usefulness, prolonging life, sharing knowledge, helping the afflicted, healing the suffering, and doing good works from the Circle, and create continuation; for you receive what has been acquired, and the Circle weighs it truly. And be glad for each small thing, for every thing from the Circle is support.

157. They asked him about light and darkness. He answered: The Call is light. The void is in darkness. Darkness is ignorance.
